Thed Björk wins in chaotic Race 2

The 2017 WTCC world champion emerges victorious from a race that was interrupted for a long time due to a problem with the signage at the start. The Swede won ahead of the Brazilian Cardoso and his teammate Santi Urrutia. In great difficulty, Yann Ehrlacher finished last ranked in this second Uruguayan round.

There were numerous incidents during this second round of El Pinar. It started on the formation lap when pole sitter Qing Hua Ma remained frozen on the starting grid. His Lynk & Co 01 having completely given up the ghost. The warm-up lap was launched and the Chinese car was pushed aside, the start was about to be given when the confusion was enormous. As the lights went out, the departure procedure was interrupted by flashing yellow lights. Oddly, the race was still started before being interrupted by the red flag. It will take many minutes before the circuit signaling is restored. When the race finally got underway, it was Brazilian driver Pedro Cardoso at the wheel of his 308 TCR who led the first laps of the race. He is quickly caught by the intractable Thed Björk. The Nordic driver takes control of the race. He takes off with the other competitors who are engaged in a hotly contested battle for the places of honor on the podium. In the end, it was Cardoso and Urrutia (who once again made his way with bumpers) who accompanied the friendly Swede on the podium.

Once again 5th, Norbert Michelisz did well for the weekend. Without getting on the slightest podium, he left the South American tour still in control of the World Cup. 22nd in the race, Yann Ehrlacher may have said goodbye to his title hopes in 2024. There are 4 races left this season before knowing this season's champion.

The TCR World Tour will now take a very long break, with the next round of the series not scheduled until the weekend of October 18-20 at the Zhuzhou circuit in China.
