Goodyear Celebrates 100 Years of Its Famous Blimp with Special Tires

The famous "Goodyear Blimp", an iconic airship that flies over circuits around the world, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. On this occasion, the American manufacturer will pay tribute to it on the sides of its tires, particularly in WEC and NASCAR.

Goodyear celebrates 100 years of its famous airship with special tires

It is an iconic element of motorsport that celebrates its centenary in 2025. The "Goodyear Blimp", or Goodyear airship, was launched in 1925 (with the "Pilgrim") and is therefore celebrating its hundredth anniversary this year. The largest semi-rigid airship in the world, measuring 75 metres long, 19,5 metres wide and 17,4 metres high, it can be found at some of the biggest events of the year, including the 24H of Le Mans or the Daytona 500 that will take place this weekend. In order to celebrate this brand, the American manufacturer has decided to pay tribute to its airship on its tires. These will have special sidewalls with the presence of the famous airship and the inscription "100 Years".

This special display will be launched in April, during the “ NASCAR's Official Throwback Weekend » at Darlington Raceway, where all stock cars will be dressed in historic livery. With the event being sponsored by Goodyear, this was a great opportunity to kick off the festivities. Additionally, Darlington Raceway, home of the Goodyear 400, will also celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025.

Then, we will find its tires with special sidewalls on the LMGT3 in the World Championship ofEndurance during the 6H of Spa-Francorchamps (May 10) and in ELMS during the 4H of Silverstone (September 14). “Very few brands have the opportunity to celebrate an event as important as the centennial of NASCAR, said Stu Grant, general manager of Goodyear Global Race Tires. Goodyear and NASCAR have been providing fans with unforgettable aerial views and exciting racing for almost as long. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the blimp at the Goodyear 400 will be special, with the blimp on tires and in the sky over a historic site like Darlington.”

In addition to sporting its iconic blimp on racing tires in celebration of its centennial, Goodyear’s fleet of three U.S. blimps will also be wearing custom tires in 2025 when they travel to special events throughout the year. Fans will get their first look at the tires, which feature bright gold lettering and a silhouette of the blimp, at the Daytona 500.
