The Weekly Question is back for a new edition. Each week, you have the opportunity to answer a question about an event that took place the previous weekend or that could take place the next. F1MotoGPRallyEnduranceIndyCarGT… all disciplines will be included.

A few days after the official announcement of the withdrawal of the brand with the arrowed A from the World ChampionshipEndurance At the end of the 2026 season, it is necessary to consider the future of Renault in motorsport. Indeed, Alpine confirmed his departure from WEC in parallel with the discontinuation of the Dacia program in rally-raid.

While it may seem surprising from a sporting perspective, given the good results of Alpine In the WEC (victory at Fuji in 2025) and for Dacia in rally-raid (victory at the Dakar in 2026), this choice is primarily financial. It is explained in particular by the low sales of Alpine in 2025. The brand sold only around 10,000 units, despite a 39% increase compared to the previous year. In contrast, Renault Group sales are showing excellent momentum, with over 2 million vehicles sold.

Less publicized than the Formula 1The World Endurance Championship and rally-raid thus constitute a less attractive showcase for the French group, now engaged in a logic of cost optimization and strategic refocusing.

In a few more months, Briatore will have – finally! – achieved the objective set by Luca De Meo, namely to sell Alpine F1 with excellent profits... In any case, F. Provost, LDM's successor, is a fervent admirer of China and of technical collaboration with Xi's red empire; however, Chinese brands sell cars, more or less heavily subsidized by the State, without doing motorsport (except for Lynk & Co in TCR, but which ultimately sells few cars...) even if Alpine F1 could be sold to Geely, a capital and technical partner of Renault Group and co-owner since the end of 2025 of Renault Geely do Brasil, the new name of Renault Brazil after Geely acquired a stake in the subsidiary that owns the famous Ayrton Senna factory in Curitiba.

We are witnessing the suicide of this company, and without batting an eye!

But also, good riddance. So excellent news if they stop everything. There are other manufacturers making much better cars and engines to support, such as Ford.

Yes, I completely agree. We can only hope that their WEC drivers, whom I adore, quickly find good seats among the newcomers, hoping it's not already too late. They're the biggest casualties, and of course, my thoughts are with Signatech. As for F1, I just hope Gasly can get out of this viper's nest in time and find a good seat before his image is tarnished. I remember Flavio's maneuvers against Jarno Trulli when he was overshadowing his protégé (and Pierre clearly isn't).

For me, abandoning motorsport Alpine And Dacia is just a maneuver by Briatore to more easily sell the 20% stake in Renault to his "friend" Horner!

After this absolutely catastrophic news regarding Alpine In the WEC and Dacia at the Dakar Rally, it reminds me of their premature departure after their only victory at Le Mans in 1978! It's a common occurrence at Renault. But, a slightly different thought: Why get worked up about a brand now based in the Netherlands and which manufactures the majority of its cars outside of France?

But Renault will no longer be present in professional motorsport following these withdrawals. Alpine F1 without Viry is just a branding exercise, like Alfa Romeo with Sauber a few years ago. Renault has left motorsport. And it's killing it. Alpine by repeating the history of the labeled Renault models Alpine This destroys the sporty and premium brand image thatalpine He was starting to recreate. Caramba, missed again!
