Cyrille Sauvage: “Carbon brakes, I don’t know what they are! »

Hello Cyrille, a dapper Lancia Y from 1992 for a stroll through the streets of Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), it's unexpected!

It's the ideal car for my short daily trips. I park it everywhere, it's easy to handle and costs me absolutely nothing. I bought it when it only had 40 km despite its great age and I love it.

Let's rewind the thread of your life: where does your journey behind the wheel begin?

It's a long story and it starts with a handlebar. My father gave me a motocross bike for my 5th birthday, a Suzuki RM 50 cm3 with a 5-speed gearbox, something that's really exciting at that age! I liked it straight away and I started quite quickly with a little competition in the Picardy league, but nothing transcendent. I'm not particularly good at it, I often end up in the hospital, but I love it. As I hated school, I decided to leave it when I was 16. My father told me “ OK, but you're going to at least go learn English for a year ". I have the choice between England or the United States, and without hesitation I head to a university campus in Alabama, where I spend a very nice year.

We're moving away from the automobile there, right?

(Laughs) I told you it was a long story! On my return from America, I decided to get ahead of the call and did my military service in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), with the Paras. I came back with a nasty herniated disc which is causing me pain. Only feeling good when sitting or lying down, my father suggested that, while I was operated on and recovered, I take my airplane and helicopter pilot's licenses.
