Having finished second in the 2025 edition, could Romain Dumas be looking for redemption at Pikes Peak? Beaten by Simone Faggioli on June 22nd, the Frenchman failed to add a sixth title to his record, despite a focused and determined performance. Winner of the legendary American hill climb in 2014, and four more times since, he competed last year in a Ford Super Mustang Mach-E. This year, the 48-year-old driver is preparing to repeat his victory.

Indeed, as part of its 2026 season launch party, encompassing all of its motorsport commitments, Ford Racing announced from Detroit that Romain Dumas would be returning to Pikes Peak at the wheel of the same Super Mustang Mach-E to attempt the complete ascent of the American mountain once again.

As a reminder, regarding the car's performance, Ford unveiled the 2700 kg of downforce generated by the vehicle last May. Capable of delivering up to 1400 horsepower, the electric version of this Mustang, however, couldn't beat Simone Faggioli's all-combustion Nova, designed by Norma, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Winning in 3:37.196, the Italian driver finished nearly five seconds ahead of the Frenchman, enough to secure victory in the last edition ahead of the local favorite.

Holder of the absolute record for the Pikes Peak hill climb, Romain Dumas will attempt to drive his electric Super Mach-E to the top. While he may not beat his own absolute record set in 2018 at 7'57"148 at the wheel of a Volkswagen ID.R, the driver from the Gard region will be aiming for another victorious climb, thus reflecting an ambition shared by Ford for a comprehensive return to the forefront of a wide variety of motorsport categories. From hill climbs to... F1 going through the WEC or RallyRaid, the Blue Oval, is making its moves to try and regain its long-term competitiveness. Following the initial announcement this January, will the challenge be met in the coming years? We'll start to see some answers as early as 2026.
