With seven seconds separating the top two in the overall standings, Seth Quintero (Toyota) and Nasser Al-Attiyah (Dacia), the final stage of the Desafío Ruta 40, a 340 km loop around San Juan, was obviously going to be decisive, and it was! In the middle of the final stage, Nasser Al-Attiyah was well on his way to winning a second victory this season, but a puncture ultimately relegated the Qatari to third place on the final podium.

Quintero thus secured his first W2RC victory, finishing third in the final timed section. His Toyota teammate, Henk Lategan, won the last stage and ultimately finished second overall. Second in the last special stage, Sébastien Loeb He ultimately finished just off the podium in this Desafío Ruta 40, and in doing so, retained his lead in the world championship, three points ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah. Seth Quintero is now third in the championship, 13 points behind Loeb.
