The Rally-Raid Portugal 2025 finally smiles on Nasser Al-Attiyah and Fabian Lurquin. The Dacia Sandriders crew set the fastest time on the 4th and penultimate stage between Badajoz (Spain) and Lisbon (Portugal).

Although they are no longer in contention for the final victory due to several mechanical problems and a blockage in the stones during the 2nd stage (8th, 24'56'' behind the leaders Moraes-Monleon), the Qatari-Belgian crew is enjoying this scratch time. “It’s very pleasant to win this Saturday, but also to do a double with Seb (Loeb, 2th). Looks like there were no problems with the car this time. ", Nasser Al-Attiyah points out mischievously.

The double world champion rally-raid (W2RC) thus pockets 5 additional points, which is no luxury in his quest for a third consecutive title. Arriving at the Rally-Raid Portugal with a 20-point margin over Henk Lategan-Brett Cummings, Al-Attiyah was until then chasing behind the South Africans, winners of a stage and better positioned in the general classification (2nd at 34 seconds).

Lurquin admiring Al-Attiyah's resilience

"This stage victory was necessary for the championship," confirmed Al-Attiyah. "I thank Seb for finishing second because it puts our rivals further back. We must continue to learn from this race with a view to the next round." (Rally of Morocco, the season finale). »

For his part, Fabian Luquin is keen to recall the professionalism shown by his driver during a difficult 3rd stage: “We are very happy to win this first W2RC victory together. I hope it won’t be the last! On Friday, Nasser showed determination and unrivaled determination. He drove 150 km with just the handbrake, because the front axle brakes were no longer working! What he was able to do was simply exceptional. Hats off to him. Even if we lost a lot of time (a quarter of an hour. Editor's note), he fought to the line to limit the damage.
