Incredible outcome at the World Championship rally-raid (W2RC) 2025! After several dozen minutes of uncertainty at the finish of the Rally of Morocco in Erfoud, the verdict was delivered through a note from the stewards. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Fabian Lurquin (Dacia) received a one-hour penalty for not stopping at the Power Selective Section stop point, the last special stage of the event!
Nasser Al-Attiyah obviously loses his provisional 3rd place in the Rally of Morocco standings, which would have been enough for him to become 2025 world champion. The Qatari drops to 13th place and now only scores 4 points, instead of the current 20 points.
His opponent Lucas Moraes (Toyota) retains his 2nd place in the Rally of Morocco with 25 points. In terms of points difference, the Brazilian overtakes Nasser Al-Attiyah by 9 points: he is the W2RC world champion!
It is not out of the question that the Dacia Sandriders team will appeal this heavy penalty later this evening. More information to follow.
