A leading team in the world championship since its inception, Hansen Motorsport was set to end its run of consecutive participations this weekend in Finland. Timmy Hansen, the only driver to have taken part in every round of the World RX so far, was unlikely to continue improving on this statistic. After announcing problems with a main partner on August 15, Kenneth Hansen's troops were preparing to stay home this weekend.
Everything changed on Tuesday when Volvo Construction Equipment, the main partner of the CE Dealer Team, called Hansen with a completely new arrangement. This weekend, Hansen's usual blue and red colors will be replaced by the yellow and gray of the CE Dealer Team, which will continue to field two other cars for Klara Andersson and Niclas Grönholm, currently second in the world championship, ahead of its home round at the KymiRing.
“On Tuesday, Volvo Construction Equipment called me, and things started from there.”, explained Kenneth Hansen. “I’m 65 years old, and this kind of turnaround is not good for me! What warmed my heart most was seeing Volvo’s passion for the sport, and their desire to see a great starting grid. The best should be on this grid according to them. I also thank the FIA and everyone in the paddock.”
A united paddock
The rest of the teams had to unanimously accept Hansen Motorsport's presence this weekend in Finland, since the Norwegian team had officially withdrawn. Unsurprisingly, the entire paddock supported this initiative. That one of the best teams in Rallycross The fact that the world is facing such financial difficulties is also a reminder of the difficult situation in World RX in recent seasons. One more reason to pull together as much as possible.
“We support Hansen Motorsport because keeping them on the grid reflects exactly why we created CE Dealer Team with Volvo CE four years ago.”, explained Micke Jansson, the team boss. “Of course, we are a very competitive team, but our goal has always been bigger than trophies. It is about leading motorsport and the industry towards a sustainable future. Seeing rival teams come together to achieve this demonstrates the spirit and potential of World RX. Ultimately, it was a clear choice to take a step forward.”
