Special ONE Racing will not run again for the season after Lydden Hill fire

Special One Racing has confirmed its withdrawal until the end of the season after losing its two Lancia Delta Evo-e RXs in the fire at Lydden Hill.

This is news that was to be expected unfortunately. Hit by a violent fire Friday morning on the sidelines of the 4e round of the 2023 World RX season at Lydden Hill (England), Special One Racing has confirmed the end of its sporting campaign.

Indeed, the French team which notably raced Guerlain Chicherit and Sébastien Loeb saw his two Lancia Delta Evo-e RXs catch fire during the unfortunate episode. With its cars completely destroyed, the Bourget-du-Lac (Savoie) structure is not able to rebuild them to see the end of the season.

« Deprived of its two cars and a large part of its equipment, Special ONE Racing will not be able to participate in the last four rounds of the 2023 season of the World Championship. Rallycross, can we read in the official release.

While waiting to take stock of its future in competition, the entire team would like to thank the authors of the numerous messages of encouragement which have been sent to it since Friday and more generally since the start of the adventure last April. We are proud of the enthusiasm generated by our two magnificent Delta Evo-e RXs, of which we only have photos and videos left today.."

After this terrible fire, the FIA ​​opened an investigation to determine the cause of it because according to the first elements reported, no one was " to physically intervene on the car whose electric propulsion system had been recharging for several minutes. At this stage, we can already say that no handling error was made by the staff of the Special ONE Racing team, nor by that of its partners.,” explains the French team.

« Watching our cars go up in smoke was a particularly painful moment for me and for the entire team who had invested so much love and energy for months in this program., lamented Guerlain Chicherit. Beyond the material losses, I prefer not to remember that no injuries have been reported among the staff, whose immense professionalism I emphasize. I would like to express all my admiration and pride towards each member of the team for having acted with accuracy and courage from the beginning to the end of the fire.."
