The ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, the world's only all-electric single-make competition, kicked off its season on May 3 and 4 in Sulingen, Germany, but the Stellantis Group subsidiary is already looking to the future. The German brand has unveiled its new Mokka GSE Rally and its 280 horsepower.
« For more than four years, Opel and ADAC have been demonstrating that the rally Electric is powerful and exciting. With our new Opel Mokka GSE Rally, we offer a glimpse of a next-generation, all-electric rally car. Using the latest motorsport technologies, this prototype delivers exceptional performance and impressive power. " said Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel and Vauxhall.
The Opel Mokka GSE Rally is the world's first rally car currently being developed according to the FIA's new eRally5 regulations. This fast prototype could thus be used worldwide in multiple customer sports competitions from the 2026 season onwards and will make its debut at the next round of the Rüsselsheim-based brand's electric championship, which takes place this weekend in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Performance worthy of a Rally 4
The 280 horsepower and 345 Newton meters of torque are combined with cutting-edge motorsport technology, promising performance worthy of a Rally 4 car. A multi-plate limited-slip differential and a competition gearbox, combined with reinforced drive shafts and wheel hubs, ensure powerful propulsion. The chassis has been designed with a lightweight design. The Bilstein rally suspension consists of reinforced McPherson struts and Uniball suspensions on the front axle, as well as a live rear axle with modified springs and dampers. Electronic driver aids such as ABS, ESP, Lane Keeping Assist, and traction control are absent from the Mokka GSE Rally. Based on experience gained from the Corsa Rally Electric, the engine and battery management software has been designed for maximum efficiency, drivability in competition conditions, and performance. The battery corresponds to that of the production version with a storage capacity of 54 kWh.
« The Mokka GSE Rally will make Opel Motorsport fans' hearts beat faster and offer them genuine moments of joy. This electric rally prototype proves that our GSE sub-brand will take the next step in 2025: with electric sensations and top-level performance, true to our rich motorsport heritage. " said Rebecca Reinermann, Vice President of Marketing at Opel and Vauxhall.
Like the Opel Corsa Rally Electric , the Mokka GSE Rally is equipped with an FIA-certified roll cage, rally seats with six-point seat belts, special battery encapsulation, and additional underride protection. The 400-volt system is continuously monitored by the proven main alarm indicator. In the event of an insulation problem, a visual and audible warning system immediately signals a malfunction. In the event of sudden deceleration, such as in a collision, a sophisticated sensor system completely shuts down the high-voltage system within tenths of a second. In addition, the Mokka GSE Rally is equipped with a special extinguishing system using a non-conductive extinguishing agent.
