Italian driver Matteo Doretto died today in a car accident near Pasym, Poland. He and his team were testing in preparation for Rally Poland.
The test constitutes the 4e appointment of theERC 2025 and the young man from the Friuli region of northern Italy (near Trieste) was competing in the Junior Championship on Rally4s. During his tests, he hit a tree and despite immediate assistance, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
His co-driver, Samuele Pellegrino, was also injured. He managed to escape from the car on his own. He was then rescued and taken to hospital, but is out of danger.
Matteo Doretto had won the 2024 Junior title in the Italian Rally Championship (CIR) and had received support from the Italian federation to compete in the ERC under the colors of the ACI Team Italia team. In this competition, the promising Italian took 3e place in Hungary.
