A cold snap hits theERCOriginally scheduled for March 20-22, the opening round of the season, the Rally The Hungarian Rally is expected to be canceled, according to reports circulating online. The reason given is financial difficulties affecting the organizers, who have reportedly already informed some teams and competitors of the cancellation. This also means that the season would begin a few weeks later, from April 17th to 19th, in Spain for the Sierra Morena Rally in Andalusia. However, the championship organizers are already looking for an alternative, and it wouldn't be surprising if a new date were added to the calendar mid-season. The season was originally scheduled to consist of eight events this year.

A hard-fought ERC championship

Among the initial additions to the calendar was a gravel rally in Portugal to close the season from October 09th to 11th. Otherwise, the calendar featured events now firmly established in the competition, such as the Rally Scandinavia, similar to the Rally Sweden. WRC But run on gravel and not snow, the Rally of Rome, which will switch to the WRC in 2027, or the legendary Barum Rally in the Czech Republic, scheduled as usual for August. Last year, the Rally Hungary hosted the second round of the season after the Sierra Morena Rally, and was therefore held in May. The short time between the two editions has clearly taken its toll on the rally's quality. In 2025, Mikołaj Marczyk won the European Rally Championship title ahead of Jon Armstrong and Andrea Mabellini. For the moment, the Polish driver has not yet revealed his plans for the upcoming season, while his runner-up will make his WRC debut with M-SportAs for Andrea Mabellini, the Italian has been working in recent months at Stellantis Motorsport to develop the new Lancia Ypsilon Rally2: we naturally imagine him driving this car later in the season.
