Yoann Bonato is going "better and better" and continues the rallies! If the Isérois is still recovering from his vertebrae injury, following his accident during the Rally des Vosges last June, he will participate in his third rally since the beginning of September. After his return to the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine and the Rallye Cœur de France as part of the French Rally Championship, the Trajectus Motorsport driver will return to the European championship, theERC, for the next asphalt round in Poland, the Rally Silesia (October 11-13).
His return to action at the beginning of September was already a small feat, given that he had to remain on the sidelines for almost six months to fully recover from his injury. "It's true that the first event in France, at the beginning of September, was a bit early for me, but the doctors said that it was possible to resume after three months, he confided ahead of the Silesia Rally to from the official ERC website. At first they said it would be six months off, but after three months I started to move a little and they told me it is possible to start again, but slowly. I have participated in two events in France and now it is Poland.
"It was very good with my injuries [in the last two rallies]. It was really good and the results were perfect. (3rd in Morzine, 2nd in the Rallye Cœur de France, Editor’s note). We are once again in the fight for the title of French champion, for the sixth time, with two races to go. Normally, Léo Rossel can win the championship because he is very fast. But you never know what can happen in these last two races, they are very difficult.
Bonato faces new challenge in Poland
Yoann Bonato's last ERC participation was at the Canary Islands Rally in May, an event he won. However, in Poland, the Isérois will discover a completely new event. Rally Silesia joins the ERC calendar for the very first time, and the Tricolore knows that he is not the favourite against the local drivers. “This rally is completely new for most of the drivers, so at the start we are all the same. But there are some fast local drivers and [Miko] Marczyk will be very fast and hard to catch because he has done this rally before.”
“I still watch the videos, but I think the rally is very fast and very bumpy, Citroën driver analyzes. The videos were taken in a very blue sky and I don't know what the weather will be like [next week]. I heard there was a lot of rain last month. I think it will be bumpy like the Barum Rally, compared to the Canaries. But for sure when you do a new rally, especially for everyone, it's very nice."
