Rally Silesia – Yoann Bonato: “I like getting out of the usual framework”

Happy to be back in the ERC, Yoann Bonato and his navigator Benjamin Boulloud don't really know what to expect in Poland. Not yet at 100%, the ski instructor wants to be ambitious while being aware of his current limits.

Rally Silesia – Yoann Bonato: “I like getting out of the usual framework”

Was this round part of your programme at the start of the year?

Absolutely. We were supposed to do the Canaries, Rome and Poland. It's a new event for everyone and I think it's great that we're at the start. I'm really happy to be back in this championship, which I always really enjoy coming to ride in.

Since Silesia was added this year, were you able to prepare it well and if so what did you think of it?

I tried to work on the videos provided by the organizer and looking for on-board cameras of the fast riders… and there are quite a few. Mikolaj Marczyk has already competed in this rally 4 times. It will be a good reference. We were able to do tests in Poland. It's so slippery! On this closed tarmac, the roads are very fast and there is really no grip. In case of rain, it could become very complicated. The organizers tried to protect the ropes by putting a lot of anti-cut. This will perhaps prevent the road from getting too dirty. There will be a lot of discoveries, but I like the profile of these specials. It's different from home. I like getting out of the usual framework.

Are you completely 100%?

The doctors told me it would take 6 months… I haven’t fully recovered yet. I have apprehensions when I know it’s going to hit, because I have back pain. So I dread the holes, the ropes, because it can hurt a little. Muscularly, I don’t feel absolutely at the top as before.

What goal have you set for yourself?

It's very difficult to answer! I would be pretentious to say that we are here to aim for a podium, but I would also be dishonest to say that this is not what we are looking for... We will have to see how it goes, how does the race where we are?
