Rally of Rome: Giandomenico Basso wins in Rome

After a furious battle with Andrea Crugnola, Giandomenico Basso won the Rally of Rome, round 5 of the ERC 2025. The highly contested duel between the two Italians ended with Crugnola receiving a 20-second penalty with three stages remaining. Mikolaj Marczyk remains in the lead in the championship, with Andrea Mabellini closing in.

Starting Friday evening with the super special around the Coliseum in Rome, the 5e The event on the calendar concluded today. The already intense battle near Fiuggi, south of the capital, was once again very close during the day's six special stages. Just over 6 km of timed runs were on the program, and warm temperatures were still forecast.

On Saturday, Andrea Crugnola (C3 Rally2) finished the stage in the lead with a lead of just 3 seconds over Giandomenico Basso (Fabia RS). The two Italians resumed their duel from the day before. After the two morning sections, Basso took the lead by just 3 seconds. In the final stage before the return to service, the Citroën driver managed to claw back his advantage by 0 seconds. Everything was in place for the battle to continue into the final stage, but immediately after the lunch break, Crugnola was 2 minutes behind and received a 2-second penalty. The battle for victory came to a sad end, with Basso slipping towards the final podium. The 5-year-old Italian won his thirde rally from Rome and becomes the 5the different winner of the championship, in 5 races. Like the other 4 before him, "Giando" is not interested in the title in ERC.

For the latter, Mikolaj Marczyk (Fabia RS) got off to a very good start, taking the provisional podium in the first special stages. The Pole took advantage of Crugnola's penalty to move up to 2nde, but he remained under threat from the Italians, Roberto Daprà (Fabia RS) and especially Andrea Mabellini (Fabia RS). The latter managed to make up the deficit and take 2e rank in the penultimate special. During the Power Stage, the Italian managed to maintain his advantage and obtained his 1er podium in 2025. 3e, Marczyk secures important points in the championship where he leads with 22 points ahead of Mabellini who achieved the best operation this weekend.
