The spectators of the 10e edition Rally Ciutad de Granada will have the chance to see the possible future world champions of WRC 2024! Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe will indeed take part in this event located in the south of Spain.
The duo who recently won the Acropolis will be back in their usual Hyundai i20 Rally1 Hybrid. This appearance seems to be more part of the development program than in preparation for Chile. Will the championship leader try solutions for 2025? This will not be the first time that the team based in Alzenau, Germany, will travel to this race. In 2019, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena had indeed won there with an i20 WRC.
The Belgian tandem will not be the only attraction in Granada. Martins Sesks and his navigator Renars Francis will also be there. The Latvian, who is preparing to take part in the Rally of Chile (26-29 September) with a Ford Puma Rally1 without hybrid, will be present on a Ford Fiesta Rally2. This comes within the framework of a very good collaboration between M-Sport and the Past Racing team, Sesks explains. It's a great opportunity for us to get back into competition and it's a kind of training before Chile. »
Furthermore, Mikko Heikkilä, who made several appearances this year in ERC will be there. The 32-year-old Finn knows the area well, as he is the most recent winner. While Neuville will be playing in his own category, the battle will be interesting between the visitors and the locals like Juan Carlos Quintana, a past winner, Xavi Vidales or Daniel Alonso who will team up with Candido Carrera, Dani Sordo's usual co-driver. Held mainly on Saturday, the event includes 100,62 km of timed stages divided into 8 special stages.
