Belgian Bjorn Syx wins the Routes du Nord

A few days after the excitement of Monte Carlo, the competitors in the French Rally Cup were back in action last weekend in Merville (Nord) for the 39th edition of the Rally Northern Roads. But it was a Belgian driver who triumphed, a local favorite. Bjorn Syx, co-driven by Kenny Deroo, were the overwhelming favorites as defending champions and lived up to that status perfectly by winning the event in their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. Over the 92 kilometers of special stages, they put nearly 3 minutes 30 seconds between themselves and their closest rivals, giving an idea of ​​the pace set by the Belgian duo. Right behind them were Vivien and Giusy Macé in a Citroën DS3 R5. But the performance of the weekend goes to the crew that took third place: Alexandre Villiod and Maëlle Casays, once again, secured their Peugeot 208 Rally4 ahead of more powerful cars and more experienced crews. It was the first time the duo had competed on this type of road, ideal training before the Rallye Le Touquet Pas-de-Calais at the end of March where they will begin their SMRC4 season.

Northern Roads Rally: a popular and sporting success

By 6,4 seconds, they finished ahead of Théau Poiriez and Margot Delnieppe, who were nevertheless equipped with a Renault Four-wheel drive Clio Rally3: hats off! Let's also acknowledge the fifth-place finish achieved by the rally organizer himself, Frédéric Roussel, who, co-driven by Tom Pinchon, was discovering his brand new car for the first time. Porsche 991 GT+. A first experience crowned with success, as Roussel also won the GT+ class. A total of 80 crews were entered in the event, while 10 competitors took part in the VHC (Historic Vehicle Championship) support race. In this category, Alexandre Thailly and Nathan Cerouter emerged victorious in a Peugeot 309 GTI. All these competitors are expected to meet again on February 13th and 14th for the second round of the Hauts-de-France Motorsport League calendar at the Rallye du Marquenterre.
