Adrien Fourmaux, 7th tonight at the Canary Islands Rally: "When I look at the times of those ahead, it gives me a headache."

Surrounded by his two teammates at the end of the first leg, the northern driver took some positives from the confrontation between the Hyundais. He also gained some ground on Dani Sordo in the Las Palmas spectacle stage.

We were obviously waiting for the Toyota at the meeting of this Rally from the Canary Islands, given how much Japanese mounts had dominated the discussions last year, but we still hoped to see the Hyundai a little closer to the Japanese cars, especially after a Rally of Croatia during which Thierry Neuville had seemed to be back to his best more than ever. Unfortunately, at the end of the first stage, the facts are clear: while the three Hyundais are very close together, they are more than 50 seconds behind the leader and cannot hope for much more than to fight amongst themselves. "We knew we couldn't hope for better, but I'm really enjoying it, it's quite interesting and anyway, if I look at the times ahead, it gives me a headache."he told us with a hint of irony Adrien fourmaux at the end of the first stage, which sees him in 7th place in the hierarchy with Alexandre Coria to his right, sandwiched between Thierry Neuville – Martijn Wydaeghe and especially Dani Sordo – Candido Carrera.

Adrien Fourmaux not surprised by Dani Sordo's performances

There are two ways to look at Hyundai's performance tonight. On the one hand, one might be surprised to see the third car ahead of the two regular drivers again: this has already happened, notably with Esapekka Lappi in Sweden and Hayden Paddon in Croatia. But on the other hand, one can marvel at the top speed displayed by Dani Sordo today, as well as his grin at the Points Stops. "It's cool to see him at this level, but I'm not surprised: I know a guy named Sébastien." Loebwho returned to Monte Carlo in 2022 and won."However," the northern driver humorously added, "like all the competitors in the event, his day ended with a second run through the Las Palmas Super Special Stage." "Given the gaps today and considering that we had conceded a second here, we couldn't afford to become complacent."He achieved a successful result, posting the third fastest time and gaining some time on his teammates. He is currently 2,8 seconds behind Dani Sordo.
