Upon arrival at the final special stage of the Rally Regarding Croatia 2026, the prevailing sentiment is one of a missed opportunity for Adrien fourmauxThe Frenchman was aiming for a specific gain in the standings and additional points, but everything changed in the final kilometers. "My goal was to gain 1,4 seconds and secure third position on the power stage. But two kilometers before the finish, I got a puncture in the middle of the tire, and I don't know exactly what caused it." A situation that was incomprehensible at the time: "I think it was on a left-hand bend […] where you normally drive on asphalt, but there were stones everywhere […] one of them probably went through the tire."

This mishap leaves a bitter taste, especially considering the points lost in the Power Stage. "We could have scored two more points, but we didn't. So yes, I'm very frustrated by what happened yesterday." A frustration that goes beyond a simple technical incident and is part of a generally demanding weekend, since he was forced to retire on Saturday due to an error. "That's the main thing, to be honest. And I'm also sorry for the team..." A measured reaction but revealing of the driver's involvement, aware of the importance of every detail in this type of rally.

"This rally deserves to be in the championship."

Because Croatia once again confirms its reputation as a tricky race, where conditions are constantly changing. Fourmaux doesn't hide the difficulty of the terrain: "It's always like this. It's always complicated, things are always happening. It's so demanding, so treacherous." Even in dry conditions, traps remain omnipresent: "The grip is good, then very poor, then better, then poor again in the next corner." For him, this complexity also gives the challenge its value: "I think that's also why this rally deserves to be in the championship, because the level is clearly very high. So it creates a lot of drama."

Among these stories, the one experienced by the Frenchman on Saturday adds a more unexpected touch. Forced to stop after his difficulties, he experienced an unusual moment away from the competition by going to eat with a local family. “I think it was fate because they were French […] both sons are French. And the funny thing is, one lives in Lille like me, the other in Montpellier like Alex.” An almost unreal coincidence, which he recounts with hindsight: "For me, it was destiny. We were meant to stop there and have lunch with them. Frankly, I think it was written even before the special stage."

Between sporting frustration and a personal interlude, Fourmaux's Croatian weekend perfectly illustrates the unpredictable nature of rallying. A mix of precision, chance, and unexpected events, where everything can change in just a few kilometers. The Frenchman's next event will be the Canary Islands Rally from April 23rd to 26th.
