If the trio consists ofOgierSolberg and Elfyn Evans are clearly a cut above the rest this weekend in the Canary Islands, the leading duo having now pulled well clear of the reigning world championship runner-up. Having set the fastest time in a tie with Solberg in SS13, the driver from Gap managed to limit the damage on the final stage, losing only 1,4 seconds to his young teammate. The two drivers will therefore approach the final day of the rally with a gap of 3,8 seconds. Third, Evans is relegated to 21,9 seconds behind overall.
A new time, Toyota has dominated the top five positions in the special stage standings, with the Japanese brand also leading the overall standings. While Takamoto Katsuta had gained time on him this morning, Sami Pajari managed to turn the tide in the final stages of the day. He will start Sunday in fourth position, 10,4 seconds ahead of Katsuta. Behind them, the Hyundai they fire in a coordinated fashion Adrien fourmaux having taken command of the internal battle, 31,8 seconds ahead of Dani Sordo, who himself has a two-second lead over Thierry Neuville.
The biggest scare of the afternoon came from Ford. M-SportJon Armstrong crashed out. The Irishman entered a right-hand corner too fast and managed to throw his Puma into the left-hand ditch to avoid a barrier that started there. He got back on his bike with the help of several spectators, but lost nearly two minutes to his teammate and dropped out of the top 10 in the general classification.
Yohan Rossel has now secured a place in the top 10. The Lancia driver, still leading WRC2, is well-positioned to clinch his second consecutive victory in the category, holding a 27,5-second advantage over Alejandro Cachón. Third-placed Léo Rossel is just two-tenths of a second behind the Spaniard overall, suggesting that the memorable Croatian one-two finish could well be repeated this Sunday… Four special stages are on the program, and the day will begin at 8:35 am French time.
