Big favorite for victory since the road crash of Sébastien Ogier This Saturday, Kalle Rovanperä wins the Rally of Central Europe, with a 43.7-second lead over his closest pursuer. Behind him, the fight raged until the final stage of this Rally between Elfyn Evans and Ott TänakIt was finally the Welshman who took the 17 points, finishing the Rally with a 5.6 margin over the Finn.
Although he withdrew from Saturday's event, Sébastien Ogier didn't leave the Central European Rally empty-handed. Having dominated every stage on Sunday, the Frenchman logically earned the 5 points awarded to the winner of the Super Sunday, as well as those awarded to the winner of the Power Stage. A total of 10 points for the Frenchman, who saved the championship after the previous day's disappointment.
Adrien fourmaux finished a complicated Rally alone in 5th place, and did not hide his frustration at the end of this difficult weekend: "We still have work to do on the car to improve it. It was once again a frustrating weekend, like in the Canaries. We're not giving up, we're continuing, but there's still work to do. There was nothing left to play for on Sunday and at the Powerstage, but that's how it is."
Sunday is even less cheerful for the reigning world champion, Thierry Neuville. After a puncture on Friday, the Belgian is trying to make up ground on the top five. However, an unfortunate exit from the track in the 15th special of the Rally saw the number 1 crash his Hyundai in the safety barriers of a bridge, having to give up scoring this weekend.
As the fight for the Drivers' title tightens at the top of the standings after this round, the results of the Central Europe Rally allow Toyota to win his 9th constructors' championship title in WRC.
In WRC2, Oliver Solberg dominated the Central European round from start to finish. Although he was not entered in this round, he nevertheless ceded the victory points to Jan Cerny. The Czech driver inherited the victory on home soil after the successive retirements of Alejandro Cachón (following a mistake on Saturday's final stage) and Frenchman Léo Rossel (victim of a mechanical problem on the evening of the third day).
