Elfyn Evans is the man of the moment in WRCThe Welshman is in the form of his life, with a great start to the season: a second place in Monte-Carlo, then two victories in two of the most emblematic rallies, in Sweden and then in Kenya. In 2025, the driver Toyota seems to be on another planet, performing on all surfaces and in all conditions. After the snow of Scandinavia and the mud of the African savannah, it's time for the asphalt and the sun of Gran Canaria, for the first Rally of the Canary Islands counting towards the World Rally Championship.

A month after his triumph in the Safari Rally, Elfyn Evans is aiming for a third consecutive victory in the Spanish archipelago. Despite his comfortable lead in the championship, with a 36-point margin over his nearest rival, Thierry Neuville, the Briton does not intend to rest on his laurels and says he is ready to attack. "We've had a good run of rallies to start the season, but that doesn't change anything for me in terms of approach: we just want to have a good rally and get the best possible result.", assures the championship leader ahead of the Spanish event.

No advantage to opening the road, according to Evans

Like many of his rivals in Rally1, Elfyn Evans will discover the magnificent special stages of the Canary Islands Rally, which until now was one of the classic events in ERCThe Welshman, who leads the Drivers' standings, will therefore start the first stage on Friday. According to him, this starting position should be neither advantageous nor a handicap on the sublime asphalt of Gran Canaria.

“In terms of characteristics, we can expect the stages to generally be very clean and quite twisty. The majority of the asphalt rallies we have run in recent years in the championship have been dirtier, and we have missed this kind of true 'circuit rally' like this, recognizes Elfyn Evans. With very few cuts, road position shouldn't have a big influence, so I don't think there's much advantage to being first, if any at all. I think the conditions should be similar for everyone and it will be a fair fight."

The Briton will also be able to rely on his experience on the Rally Sierra Morena, which he contested at the beginning of April with the Toyota Yaris Rally1 in order to better understand the functioning of the new Hankook tires. A rally on which Thierry Neuville was also present with his HyundaiIn this first mini-duel, it was the Belgian who took the lead in Spain, finishing ten seconds ahead of the Welshman. Will Elfyn Evans get his revenge this weekend?
