Currently leading the championship after his success in the Rally In Monte Carlo, Oliver Solberg was logically among the favorites on his home turf. A three-time winner of the event in WRC2, the Scandinavian driver indeed showed great promise by setting the fastest times on SS1, SS4, SS8 and SS11.
However, several blunders proved costly, depriving him of third place, which went to Sami Pajari. Now fourth in the provisional overall standings, Oliver Solberg is 33 seconds off the podium.
After leading the way for his rivals on the first two days as championship leader, Oliver Solberg was finally able to capitalize on a more favorable starting position on Saturday to climb the standings, having been 51 seconds behind before SS9. Making significant progress from the second day onwards, the Swede can be satisfied with his overall performance, even if a podium finish seemed within his grasp for a long time, with his teammate Sami Pajari as his main target at midday.
« Fourth place was the goal today. Third wasn't far off. We started thirty seconds back, and we're still thirty seconds off the podium. The morning was good. This afternoon, there was a lot more snow. he explains in detail to AUTOweekly, present on siteEvery car was faster. It's still my first time driving the car on snow, and yesterday I was opening the road. It's a complete experience. »
On the final day of racing, the championship leader will aim to collect as many points as possible. Five points are up for grabs in the Super Sunday event, and another five in the Power Stage. Tomorrow, we're going for the points. 10 points is the target for tomorrow. Minimum » he jokes.
