It's business as usual. Estonian driver Robert Virves and his co-driver Jakko Viilo will return to WRC2 this season with the semi-official Toksport team, driving a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 for an eight-round program that kicks off in March with the Safari Rally in Kenya. Having won a WRC2 round for the first time in his career in Estonia last year, Virves is naturally considered a contender for the world title this season. Toksport, a long-standing partner of the Czech manufacturer, won the WRC2 Teams Championship in 2025. Virves was already driving for the team, as was Nikolay Gryazin, who returned to Škoda last year through them and now competes for Lancia Corse in the new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale. The confirmation of Virves' presence certainly adds a little more to the 2026 lineup.

In which rallies will Robert Virves compete?

As a reminder, drivers competing in WRC2 have a degree of freedom in selecting the rallies where they will score points. Each driver must enter seven events, and their six best results are used to determine the final championship standings. This is one of the reasons why it is currently difficult to know the exact plans of the crews involved. By starting with the third round of the season, Robert Virves has therefore chosen to forgo Monte Carlo and Sweden to focus on gravel. After Kenya, eight of the eleven remaining rounds will be run on gravel. The Estonian will therefore participate in a maximum of three asphalt rallies: Croatia, rally in which he participated last year ERC, certainly to prepare for this year's edition, the Canary Islands, which were on his WRC2 2025 program, and Japan even if this trip seems unlikely.
