The organizers of the Safari Rally in Kenya recently released the route for their 2026 edition, which will host the third round of the World Rally Championship. This program highlighted two changes: the elimination of Wednesday's stages and the super special stage, which had been run as a duel since 2021, thus confirming that the rally will not pass through the country's capital. The Shakedown for the event, which previously took place on Wednesdays, will now be held on Thursday mornings at a new 5-kilometer location in Nawisa. Otherwise, there are no major changes: the rally route will be classic and will follow the conventional timed sections since the event's return to the calendar. WRC in 2021.
Meager trays
Although the destination is legendary, the "new generation" Safari Rally has sometimes been the subject of much debate. At a time when the WRC is seeking a new dynamic at a lower cost, the question of the rally's continued presence on the calendar can be raised, even if, politically, the date is important for local authorities. Thirty entries in 2025, 28 in 2024, 31 in 2023: a far cry from the number of entries the rally boasted in its heyday. By condensing the schedule, the organizers may have aimed to attract as many crews and teams as possible.
