On the smooth asphalt of Rally In the Canary Islands, the duel for victory lived up to all expectations before descending into tragedy. Imperious on Friday, Sébastien Ogier had to dig deep to resist Oliver Solberg's blistering comeback, before fate chose its side in the penultimate special stage of the event.

The Swede, who seemed poised to dethrone the French master, saw his hopes dashed against a wall in SS17. A fatal error, a torn-off front right wheel, handed Sébastien Ogier his 68th victory on a silver platter. WRCbreaking a drought that had lasted since the 2025 Rally Japan. Behind this historic success, Toyota achieves a masterful feat by locking out the top four places in the general classification, leaving the Hyundai byAdrien fourmaux et Thierry Neuville at a respectable distance.

In the WRC championship, this upset benefited Elfyn Evans, who took the lead with 101 points, just two points ahead of Takamoto Katsuta (99 pts). Oliver Solberg slipped to fourth place with zero points following his blunder in Croatia. Conversely, the comeback is underway for Sébastien Ogier who, with 32 points collected in the Canary Islands, remains sixth overall but has reduced the gap to the leader to 43 points.

While Yohan Rossel celebrated a dominant victory in WRC2, now joint leader of the category, it was tinged with disappointment for his brother Léo. Betrayed by his transmission in SS17 while on course for a podium finish, the younger Rossel had to settle for fifth place in the rally. This twist of fate benefited Éric Camilli, who climbed to seventh in the WRC2 championship. The Rossel brothers are now perfectly tied at the top of the standings, with 52 points each.
