Back at the head of the WRC after a Rally from perfect Chile, where he had a faultless weekend, winning the Rally, the Super Sunday, and the Power Stage, Sébastien Ogier made a mistake at the Central Europe Rally that reshuffled the cards for the end of the season. Kalle Rovanperä was able to take advantage of the eight-time world champion's blunder, returning to level with the Frenchman in the standings. Elfyn Evans took advantage of the opportunity to take the championship lead.

After 18 special stages contested between Germany and Austria alongside his co-driver and compatriot Vincent Landais, Sébastien Ogier finished only 12the of this penultimate round of the 2025 WRC season. “The rally was more complicated than we would have liked, recognizes the pilot Toyota on his X account. That's part of the game in motorsport. Sometimes you have to deal with situations you can't control."

The Tricolores thus only collected 10 points during Super Sunday and the Power Stage at the end of this 12th round. We did everything we could this weekend, declared the Gapençais, visibly disappointed with his performance. Let's see how many points we've collected. That's life. Yesterday, certain things happened and all we can do is move on. "In the cold, the Frenchman is still pleased to have saved the furniture." It's good to have scored these 10 points" recalls Ogier.

A mistake with serious consequences for Sébastien Ogier at the Central Europe Rally

The day before, Sébastien Ogier had indeed made a mistake, crashing his Toyota Yaris into a tree, forcing him to retire during the tenth special stage. The Frenchman pointed to a slow puncture that trapped him while he was having one of the best duels of the season with Kalle Rovanperä. Having emerged unscathed from the incident, the French crew nevertheless returned to competition on Sunday and dominated the final stages. "We saved as much as we could on that last day. I have no regrets.", underlines Sébastien Ogier. I'm especially happy that we came out of yesterday's incident unscathed and that today we were able to leave with a car in perfect condition and show that we had the pace."

With just two rounds left in the 2025 championship, Sébastien Ogier will have to fight for the title against two of his Toyota teammates: Elfyn Evans, current leader with 247 points, and Kalle Rovanperä, winner of the Central European Rally and now tied with the Frenchman on 234 points. The championship will be intense until the end, promises the Haut-Alpin. I can't wait to be in Japan!” The next rally will take place in the land of the rising sun from November 6 to 9, 2025.

Contrary to what is stated in the article, Ogier did not make any mistake or blunder... He simply punctured the front left tire and the rim cut into the inner sidewall of the tire. This was clearly visible in the images after his accident. The puncture was not detected by the faulty pressure sensor, even though he had, according to his own words, noticed a slight blur during the two previous turns which were on the left and therefore with less stress on the front left tire.
