Rain, the only real change in Safari Rally 2024?

Even if it is possible to put forward explanations, there was still a little disappointment in noting that the Safari 2024 (March 28-31) would be a copy and paste of that of 2023.

How regrettable it is that an event like Kenya is content to offer exactly the same route from one year to the next. Having with the Rift Valley a vast and varied play area, was there not a way to introduce one or two new sectors?

The excuses put forward to explain this situation are, however, well known and entirely admissible. Using sections that have already been used makes the task of marshals on the ground easier. They have their bearings there which can avoid inconveniences. In the case of the 72e edition of this classic, which will celebrate its 4e consecutive appearance in WRC since its return in 2021, it is also possible to discuss the proximity with the event organized in 2023. The rally having ended on June 25, that left just over 8 months to get things back on track. Perhaps it was too short to launch into innovations? Beyond the lack of originality of the chronographs, the question of their condition clearly arises. What will be the conditions in the already terrible Kedong special (30,62 km) scheduled twice on Friday if the road has not undergone any repairs after 2023? If the Safari must remain exclusive in the calendar, it must not become a “car wreck”. The main change to expect is the weather.

The first event on gravel this year will indeed be run during the rainy season. This could play a major role. Every time it has rained in recent years, the sleeve has been packed. Will the 2024 edition offer the same show? Locals say it's raining less than before, but it will only take one or two storms to cause chaos.

the 3e calendar meeting will offer 355,92 timed km divided into 19 ES. The sites and names around the village of Naivasha are starting to be well known, the shakedown in Loldia, the superspecial in Nairobi then the already classic Geothermal, Kedong or Sleeping Warrior.
