The announcement had been expected for a few weeks already, here it is official: Sami Pajari, JWRC champion in 2021, will compete in the WRC2 championship in 2024 on board the news Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, which will make its official competition debut during the Rally Monte Carlo (January 25-28). The young 22-year-old driver, considered one of the most promising drivers in rallying, will compete in his second full season in the antechamber of the WRC with the Finnish Printsport Racing team, supported by Toyota and based at the same location as the Japanese team, in Jyväskylä (Finland).

For Pajari, « the opportunity is so beautiful” to join Toyota

Sami Pajari is therefore leaving the Skoda fold, having finished 8th in the WRC2 championship last year with a notable victory at the Rally Finland and four podiums. This winter, the Finn was spotted testing the new Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, betraying his plans for 2024.

“I am grateful to all our partners for giving me the opportunity to pursue my career through this exciting new project, rejoices Sami Pajari. While Toyota has made winning cars in the past, I also believe in their vision for the future. That’s why I really wanted to choose this car, especially since I had the unique opportunity to be one of the first to drive it in a WRC event. Naturally, it will be interesting to compare his performance to that of the others during the first event. Overall, the opportunity is so good that I decided to take it. »

The young world rally hopeful also wanted to thank his former team, Toksport WRT. “It was a great team, from whom I received enormous support and countless valuable lessons. Toksport has been a wonderful place where I have been able to develop as a driver in every way. The performance of the car has always been good and our cooperation has gone smoothly. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart the team director, Serkan Duru, for the time we spent together. »

Currently, Sami Pajari is the only driver to have confirmed his commitment to the WRC2 championship with the Yaris Rally2. As a reminder, Bryan Bouffier and Jan Solans will also be at the start of the Monte-Carlo Rally with the new Japanese car.
