This is the image of this beginning of the Rally Monte-Carlo 2025. Shortly after the start of the third special, Sébastien Ogier made a mistake on a left turn and narrowly avoided a penalty. Fortunately for him, his very good reaction allowed him to catch up with his Yaris and keep it on the road.

Inevitably, his adventures were not without consequences since the Tricolore was forced to give up the lead in the general classification to Thierry Neuville, after having signed the first two scratch wins. A blessing in disguise since he only lost about fifteen seconds of this affair while the outcome could have been much sadder.

« I was lucky, he almost smiled in the service park. This could have had much more serious consequences. We can be happy to still be in the running. It's a shame because we had a very good start to the rally.

We knew we were going to have to take a few more risks again. Our starting position is far from ideal because everyone knows that there is a disadvantage in starting after a few cars. So we had to push a little more. Everything was going well but unfortunately I lost the car on a dirt section. But we can be satisfied with the fact that I managed to bite something on the side that allowed me to stay on the road, without damaging the car too much and losing only 15 seconds. It is never good but in Monte Carlo it happens and there is still a long way to go. »

Leading by 5 before the start of this SS3, Sébastien Ogier is now 3 behind Thierry Neuville. This Friday, 12 special stages are on the programme. Enough for the eight-time world champion to be able to reclaim his property… provided he avoids all the traps this time.
