Here is the first new one rally of the season in WRCThe Canary Islands Rally, one of the classic events of theERC, arrives on the World Rally Championship calendar for the first time in 2025. The Spanish event will consist of 18 special stages, spread over three days of competition, for a total of 301,30 timed kilometers. Two of them are planned to offer a spectacle in the city for spectators like the traditional super-special stages, often very short. The one in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is 1,80 kilometers long while the one in Maspalomas – Costa Canaria is contested over 1,50 kilometers.
For this new edition of the Rally of the Canaries, the organizers have focused on innovation, retaining only 55 kilometers compared to 2024, when the rally was still on the ERC program. It's worth noting that all the event's special stages will have a tire warm-up zone. This is a new feature for the archipelago's rally.
The Canary Islands Rally will be packed for its WRC debut, with no fewer than 63 crews taking to the start of the rally on April 24. Ten Rally1s will be lined up in the Canary Islands, with five Toyota, three Hyundai and two Fords M-Sport. Sébastien Ogier will indeed be there, a last-minute participation for the eight-time French world champion. The Gapençais will join the four regulars, namely Kalle Rovanperä, Takamoto Katsuta, Sami Pajari and the championship leader, Elfyn Evans.
For Hyundai and M-Sport Ford, no changes: the Korean clan will trust its three drivers, Thierry Neuville, Ott Tänak et Adrien fourmaux, and the British team will trust us with Grégoire Munster and Josh McErlean. Note that before the event, Elfyn Evans and Thierry Neuville took part in the Sierra Morena Rally (April 3-6), the opening round of the 2025 ERC season, in order to learn how Hankook tires work on asphalt.
