WRC – Australia: the first four in nine seconds
Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) won the two special stages of the second passage of the 2nd stage of the Rally from Australia and took the lead of the event with a lead of 3 tenths over Chris Meeke (Citroen).
The double world champion made the difference in Valla (SS12) contested at night where his position on the road proved to be an advantage, most of the competitors having been slowed down by suspended dust despite the 5 minute gap between each car. The Northern Irishman was angry enough not to comment at the press briefing.
Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen) also has every chance of winning since he is only 2” behind his teammate. Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen) is also in the match just 9” behind first place. The Norwegian watches Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) who remains around ten seconds behind his Polo R WRC.
Ott Tänak (Ford) still occupies 6th place ahead of the two other Hyundai drivers. Thierry Neuville took the advantage over Dani Sordo to gain 7th place, ahead of the Spaniard by 6 seconds. Elfyn Evans (Ford) is still 9th ahead Nasser Al-Attiyah (Fiesta RRC), leader of WRC2.
Stage 3 of Rally Australia will begin this evening at 23:58 p.m. The Power Stage will be contested from 5:08 a.m.
