

Franco Morbidelli was born on December 4, 1994, in Rome, Italy. The son of a former racer, he grew up in a motorcycle-loving environment and began racing at a very early age. He made his debut in the Italian Championship before moving on to the European Superstock 600 Championship, which he won in 2013.
He entered the Moto2 World Championship in 2014 with the Italtrans team, where he steadily progressed. In 2016, he joined the Marc VDS team and achieved his first podium finishes. In 2017, he had a dominant season, winning eight races and securing the Moto2 World Championship title.
In 2018, he moved up to MotoGP with the Marc VDS Honda satellite team. After a first season of apprenticeship, he joined the Petronas Yamaha SRT team in 2019 and began to make a name for himself. In 2020, he had an exceptional season, winning three races and finishing runner-up behind Joan Mir, despite riding a less advanced bike than the factory Yamaha riders.
In 2021, a knee injury slowed his progress and he was forced to miss several races. He was promoted to the official Yamaha team mid-season to replace Maverick Viñales, but struggled to regain his form. His results continued to fall behind in 2022 and 2023, despite some solid performances.
In 2024, he joined the Pramac Ducati team with the aim of relaunching his career on a more competitive machine.
