Jack Doohan made his single-seater debut in 2018 in the British Formula 4 Championship with Christian Horner's Arden team, alongside Dennis Hauger. The Australian finished fifth overall with 12 podiums, including three wins and the lead in the rookie standings. He also competed in a few races in the German and Italian series with Prema Powerteam.
The following year, in 2019, Mick Doohan's son joined the Asian Formula 3 Championship with Hitech. He finished second in the competition 25 points behind Ukyo Sasahara. The Gold Coast native also competed in Euroformula Open with Double R, winning a race at the Red Bull Ring, but only finished eleventh in the drivers' standings.
In 2020, Doohan joined HWA Racelab to progress in FIA Formula 3 alongside Jake Hughes and Enzo Fittipaldi. His season was summed up by a succession of incidents and technical problems which did not allow him to score any points. Despite a 26th position, he took part in the post-season tests with Trident, a team he joined for the 2021 season. The young Aussie joined forces with Clément Novalak and David Schumacher to win the teams' title as well as second place in the drivers' standings with 179 points.
The Australian driver continues his climb up the single-seater pyramid to Formula 2 with MP Motorsport for the final two races of the 2021 round. After taking part in post-season testing, he joins Virtuosi Racing with Marino Sato in 2022. Doohan reaches sixth place in the Championship in his first year of F2 and then ends the 2023 edition in third position in the drivers' standings.
Doohan makes his first laps in a Formula 1 car in 2021 with Alpine during Free Practice at the Mexican Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after joining the academy. The protégé of a business associate of Flavio Briatore returns to the French car in FP1 of the 2023 editions of the Canadian and British Grand Prix. The reserve driver for the A Fléché team finds himself propelled aboard the A524 for his first full weekend at the final round of the 2024 season in Abu Dhabi, replacing Esteban Ocon. The Australian had also been named a regular for 2025 on the sidelines of the Zandvoort Grand Prix.
Managed by a historical close friend of Flavio Briatore, Jack Doohan has a certain talent, but the extent of it remains to be proven. The Australian has shown in his past years in the promotional formula that he can be very fast over a lap. Nevertheless, he has room for improvement regarding his race pace. With his competitive mentality inherited from his father, Michael Doohan, five-time 500cc Moto champion, this very polite and well-educated boy has all the cards in hand to surprise.
