After suffering a violent highside crash in the closing laps of the French Grand Prix Sprint, Marc Márquez underwent double surgery on Sunday at the Ruber Internacional clinic in Madrid, while the other riders on the grid were taking to the track for the French Grand Prix. The Ducati rider emerged with a smile and reassured all his fans in a post dated Monday, May 11th: "The operation was a success! I am truly grateful for your messages and support. A huge thank you to the medical team for their incredible work!"

The first procedure, performed by Dr. Samuel Antuña and his team, stabilized a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, a direct consequence of his crash on Saturday at Le Mans. The second procedure had been planned for some time: the Spaniard had been suffering from his right shoulder again since his other highside crash during the 2025 Indonesian Grand Prix, which had aggravated his old injury. Surgeons removed two screws and a bone fragment from a Latarjet procedure performed in December 2019, which were compressing the radial nerve.

Marc Márquez spent the night under observation and will be able to return home on Tuesday to begin his rehabilitation. His participation in next week's Catalan Grand Prix has already been cancelled. The length of his recovery will depend on how he progresses in the coming weeks—a major unknown for Ducati, as the championship is now at stake and his teammate Francesco Bagnaia is also struggling to find his form, despite what appeared to be a positive weekend at Le Mans before his crash on Sunday. At the moment, Ducati has made no announcement regarding a potential replacement for Marc Márquez.
