The same rule that cost Maverick Viñales (Tech3 KTM) his podium finish in Qatar has deducted two points from Aleix Espargaró (Honda) at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Spaniard, who was competing in his first wild card of the season, spent too much time with too low tire pressure during Sunday's race at Jerez de la Frontera. The rule MotoGP stipulates that drivers must spend at least 60% of each race with a minimum tire pressure defined by Michelin. If the regulations are not followed to the letter in Sprint, the penalty is eight seconds, doubled in Grand Prix, since Sunday's race is twice as long.
This won't change the face of the championship or the career of the eldest of the Espargaró brothers. Now a test driver for Honda, the #41 driver had an RC213V this weekend with several upgrades, which will continue to be tested starting this Monday, during the first session organized the day after a Grand Prix in this 2025 season. And it is ultimately on that day that the real results will be obtained, more than the two anecdotal points he had scored.
