Car No. 7 attempted to pass Car No. 14 around the outside of Turn 7, a long radius corner. At no point in the corner was Car No. 7's front axle in front of Car No. 14's. Car No. 7 remained to the outside of Car No. 14 as it approached the corner's exit, and contact occurred. The driver of Car No. 14 stated that he followed his normal racing line into Turn 7. The driver of Car No. 7 stated that because Car No. 14 had left space on the outside, he believed he could continue to have that space through the corner's exit.
Car No. 7 was not entitled to any space on the exit. However, at the time of the collision, car No. 7 had a significant amount of space on its left. After a thorough review of the situation, the stewards concluded that the driver of car No. 7 was solely responsible for the collision.
