Ahead of the first FREC weekend in Spielberg, Austria (April 24-26), the grid continues to gradually fill up. While the teams will head to Le Castellet on Monday, March 30, for two days of pre-season testing, after running at Hockenheim (Germany), Prema has revealed the identity of one of its three drivers for the upcoming year.

The driver is Latvian Tomass Stolcermanis, who is already familiar with the team. He started with Prema in Formula 4 Southeast Asia (achieving one podium finish). Then, still with the Italian team, the 18-year-old competed in F4 UAE, F4 Italy, and Euro4 in 2024, securing a total of one pole position and four podium finishes across the three categories.

Last year, Tomass Stolcermanis competed in F4 Middle East, where he finished 4th in the championship, while also participating in six F4 Italy races (one podium finish) and two FRECA races with RPM, culminating in the final round at Monza. He will now return to the Formula Regional European Championship, now known as FREC, for a full season with Prema.

“We are delighted to welcome Tomass back to PREMA for the inaugural FREC season.”, says Stephen Mitas, Team Principal and CEO of Prema. “Having started his career with us, it is particularly gratifying to see him return to the team, where he is highly valued by everyone who has worked with him. His knowledge of how we operate, combined with valuable experience in Formula Regional, puts him in an excellent position to integrate quickly and be competitive from the outset.”

“Returning to PREMA means a lot to me, because it’s where I experienced my first successes in F4, from my first points to the podium and my first victory,” Tomass Stolcermanis, for his part, appreciates it. “We are now reunited for an exciting new chapter. This season, I will be moving up to FREC, a new challenge where I have little experience, but I am very motivated and eager to get started.”

He is expected to team up with Salim Hanna and Sebastian Wheldon, although the American's participation remains uncertain. Prema's precarious financial situation could force Dan Wheldon's son to find a way out.
