After the first Free Practice sessions earlier this morning, the Guia circuit is preparing to host the first real action of the week. To officially kick off the Macau Grand Prix, the first qualifying session will begin at 8:50 AM (French time) and will provide the first indications of the pecking order. This morning, the Japanese driver – racing under a French license – Taito Kato set the fastest time in practice with a lap of 2:16.412. Just 44 thousandths of a second behind, Freddie Slater, fresh from his FRECA championship title win, was second, just ahead of the Spaniard Mari Boya. Fourth, fifth, and sixth, the three French drivers Théophile Naël, Enzo Deligny, and Evan Giltaire followed closely behind, confirming the high expectations surrounding their performance.
As a reminder, the Macau Grand Prix sees the Formula Regional series establish the starting grid order as follows. Two qualifying sessions, held between Thursday and Friday, will allow drivers to combine all the fastest overall times, regardless of whether they were set in the first or second session. The qualifying race will then be based on this grid. The starting positions for the Grand Prix will be determined by the final result of the qualifying race scheduled for Saturday.
