Funny scene that took place during the Sprint Race of F2 at Monza. On paper, Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta) got the better of Dennis Hauger (MP Motorsport) to secure the last point at stake. That of 8th position. At least that's what the race scoreboard showed at first.
However, one detail escaped many people: the two men crossed the finish line side by side. A photo finish could have separated them, but this time it was impossible. Not even a millimeter separated the Brazilian and the Norwegian, according to telemetry, who finished with the same race time, namely 35'52"065.
Faced with this situation, the race management took a decision that surprised more than one: to share the point initially awarded to Gabriel Bortoleto. Thus, each finished the day with half a point.
While some may have cried foul on the part of the FIA on social media, it should be noted that the sporting regulations were simply applied properly. Article stipulates that the point(s) of the drivers arriving tied on the finish line will simply be shared equally. That way, there are no unhappy people.
This therefore suits the championship leader Isack Hadjar (Campos) who sees Gabriel Bortoleto fall back to 35,5 lengths.
