Katherine Legge in Dale Coyne's #51 this weekend

There will not (for now) be a seventh different driver in the No. 51 Dale Coyne Racing car in IndyCar, as Katherine Legge, who drove for the team at the Indianapolis 500, will take over the wheel during this weekend's two races at Iowa Speedway.

The Briton, who also took part in collective testing in Milwaukee last month, is tipped to be the designated driver for all ovals this season at the wheel of the No. 51. Dale Coyne, however, appears willing to continue to announce the recipient of the seat on a race-by-race basis, and so it is only the two Iowa events that are so far confirmed for Katherine Legge.

In May, she managed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 at the wheel of the same car, thus being the only Dale Coyne driver to start, after the non-qualification of Nolan Siegel. She was also the only woman at the start. Unfortunately, an engine problem forced her to retire after only 22 of the 200 laps scheduled.

“I am delighted to be behind the wheel of a IndyCar for both races at Iowa Speedway this weekend », Legge said. “We carried out some successful tests last week and I can't wait to see how the races go on this new surface. I'm grateful to Dale Coyne and Honda and I'm very happy to be back in the No. 51. »

Monday, the day after the IndyCar race on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the team tested Hunter McElrea, current driver in IMSA. The New Zealander finished second in the Indy NXT championship last year, and could therefore well become the seventh driver to succeed at the wheel of the No. 51, unless Dale Coyne has a new surprise in store for us...
