Surprise announcement this Wednesday morning with the debut of Nyck de Vries in Super Formula at the Motegi round. The Dutchman will compete in another race next.

Nyck de Vries adds a new championship to its calendar. After the Formula E with Mahindra and the WEC with Toyota, the Dutchman will indeed compete in two Super Formula races this year. He will take the wheel of the car n°7 of Team Impul, the one which was piloted by Theo Pourchaire during the first meeting of the year at Suzuka.

Since the departure of the Frenchman, who seized his chance to ride in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren, the Japanese team placed its trust in Ben Barnicoat then in Hibiki Taira, reigning Super Taikyu champion.

De Vries will make his Super Formula debut at Motegi from August 23-25 before racing at Fuji from October 11-13. However, Team Impul will not be able to call on the Batavian for the season finale at Suzuka on November 9 and 10 (due to pre-season testing in Formula E) where Hibiki Taira will make his return.
