After a windy and freezing day at Daytona, some preferred to stay warm on Thursday evening. Half of the cars in the GTP category did not take to the track during Free Practice 2 of the Florida double-circle race, held at night and in the rain, including the BMW n°24 which took pole position for the event a little earlier in the day through Dries Vanthoor.
This empty session ended with a strange result, since Nick Tandy, at the wheel of the Porsche No. 7, and Kamui Kobayashi, installed in the Cadillac n°31, signed the best time: 1:36.921. The privilege of the first place goes to the Briton, author of his best lap before the Japanese. The podium of the evening is completed by Brendon Hartley on the No. 10 Cadillac, just 0.014 seconds behind Tandy.
Malthe Jakobsen set the LM P2 class reference time in the No. 07 Crowdstrike by APR Oreca 04. The Dane set a lap time of 1:38.525. Jules Gounon distinguished himself with the GTD Pro reference time of 1:47.809 in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°75 from the 75 Express team.
Marvin Krichhöfer was the fastest GTD in the #06 AWA Corvette Z3 GT13.R with a time of 1:48.809.
