The Algarve Pro Racing LMP2 car, driven by Michael Jensen, was hit on the left rear by the Ferrari 296 GT3 No. 15, driven by Memo Gidley, crashed on the straight between turns 8 and 9, sending both cars into the barrier at full speed. Race control reacted immediately by displaying the red flag, instantly halting the Abu Dhabi 4 Hours. The safety barriers were heavily damaged and will need to be replaced.

The two drivers involved in the accident got out of their cars on their own and will undergo routine checks at the medical center. The race was interrupted after forty minutes, and the #5 United Autosports Oreca, driven from pole position by Giorgio Roda, is currently leading the race, ahead of the #20 Algarve Pro Racing car, with John Falb at the wheel.
