While the various manufacturers have taken turns at the top of the standings in the various Free Practice sessions of the Roar, BMW has been the most consistent brand since Friday. After dominating sessions 2 and 3 through Dries Vanthoor and Marco Wittmann, the propeller-powered firm once again took first place in the fourth session. This time, it was Sheldon van der Linde who proved to be the fastest at the wheel of the M Hybrid V8 n°25 in 1:36.196. BMW even scored a one-two since the South African was followed in the standings by Dries Vanthoor, 0.404 seconds behind.
After Dries, it was his older brother Laurens who stood out during the fifth driving session, held at night. The Belgian set the reference time of 1:36.271 ahead of… the two BMWs, who were definitely in great shape, even if we should obviously not draw hasty conclusions from this weekend. The world championEndurance The title holder thus beat Philipp Eng (BMW n°24) and Sheldon van der Linde (BMW n°25), respectively by 0.227 and 0.641 seconds.
In the other categories, Frenchman Tom Dillmann set the fastest time in the LM P2 class in the fourth session of testing with a time of 1:40.272 for Inter Europol Competition. The Polish team also finished FP5 on top, but through António Félix da Costa (1:39.618).
The #3 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT2 EVO9 continued its good form with the fastest time in GTD Pro in FP4 (1:48.049). Thomas Preining was fastest in the class overnight at the wheel of the Porsche Proton Competition's 911 GT3 R (1:48.034). In GTD, it was Denmark's Michele Gatting who stood out in session 4 with the Iron Dames Porsche 911 GT3 R (1:48.173). Another car from the German brand dominated this class once night fell with the #120 Wright Motorsports (1:48.140).
