Frédéric Vasseur may be wearing the shirt Team Ferrari's team principal had a heartfelt thought for his former employer Renault on the starting grid of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Frenchman had indeed been Team Principal of Renault F1 during the return of the diamond-shaped logo company as a Formula 1 team. Formula 1 in 2016.
🎙️ “Renault was a whole chapter of my life… I have one small regret: in France, we aren't able to realize what we do well.”

“I started watching F1 in Dijon (in 1979), with the duel between Rene Arnoux (Renault) and Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari). I was raised on the victories ofAlain Prost in the early 1980s and I also experienced the arrival of the turbo in F1 (thanks to Renault)My idol was Bernard Dudot. (Legendary engine manufacturer, creator of the V6 turbo in F1 in the 1970s and then the V10. Editor's note) then Christian Contzen (Director of Renault Sport from 1990 to 2002. (Editor's note) who helped me, who helped me when I was starting out F3 (with Renault engines. Editor's note), and then later in F1. So there you have it, Renault, it was a whole chapter of my life.
I am sincerely very moved for the people of Viruses"Châtillon today, and for all the people who worked in Viry. And I have one small regret, which is that in France, we're not always able to realize the good things we do!"

We might not realize what we're doing well, but Renault also didn't realize what they were doing wrong! It's a disaster that the Renault engine is disappearing, but we should also understand the reasons instead of seeing ourselves as better than we actually were: Red Bull (whom I don't like) criticized the engine for a long time, and for good reason. The result: they "dropped" Renault for Honda... And we saw what happened next: titles, while Renault/Alpine has only regressed. McLaren used the Renault engine and eventually switched to Mercedes. A coincidence? Probably not... And they also won with Mercedes. The Renault engine is blamed for the poor season ofAlpine And this has been the case for several seasons now, but if the chassis had truly been up to scratch, there would have been more impressive performances and the team could have been competitive. Instead, it has only regressed. The Enstone team had better work hard for next year because they will no longer be able to hide behind the engine's shortcomings...
