The world of the famous heist saga is about to go back well before American casinos. During a presentation at CinemaCon, which takes place from April 13 to 16 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Margot Robbie revealed the first concrete information about the project: the film will follow the parents of Danny Ocean — the main character of the saga played by George Clooney — described as two criminal masterminds, involved in a large-scale heist on the sidelines of the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.

The choice of Monaco in the 1960s is not insignificant: at that time, the sport already represented a global showcase, thanks to its unique street circuit, proximity to the railway tracks, and growing media exposure. The hustle and bustle of the race provides an ideal setting for a heist scenario, where every move can be concealed. For the moment, there has been no announcement on this subject, but the Monaco Historic Grand Prix could be the perfect backdrop for the film. Margot Robbie has already starred in a motorsport-related film: in 2015, she appeared alongside Will Smith in "Focus," where...IndyCar was at the center of certain scenes.

The project is part of a broader trend of closer ties between Hollywood and motorsport, while the Formula 1 Formula 1 is strengthening its cultural appeal beyond the racetracks—particularly thanks to the F1 film, which is slated to have a sequel. Produced by LuckyChap, the film is expected to begin shooting this year for a planned 2027 release. Drawing on the myth of the Monaco Grand Prix, this prequel could offer a fresh take on the sport, seen through the lens of heist films, while further cementing F1's place in popular culture.
