It's a story that sounds like it came straight out of the original "Talladega Nights" movie, but this time it's real. Suspension and drivetrain mechanic Tim Brown will be behind the wheel of Rick Ware Racing's No. 15 Ford Mustang, a car he works on year-round. A special reward for Brown that has its roots in the Clash's destination for next season, Bowman Gray Stadium.
This iconic Winston-Salem track in North Carolina hosted the Cup Series from 1958 to 1971, but has above all become a legendary track for short track events in North America. And Tim Brown is no less than the record holder for victories on the circuit, with 101 races, 146 pole positions and twelve circuit championships won. We can therefore better understand Rick Ware's desire to line him up in the No. 15... The team, accustomed to the back of the grid, has become more competitive since the introduction of the Next Gen in 2022, and it could well pull off a coup during this exhibition round that usually kicks off the season. Because if Brown will discover driving a Cup car, he knows every corner of the track and will be able to use this knowledge in an express format weekend, with few test sessions.
"I worked my whole life to try to become a Cup driver", Brown said. “I don’t mind working on race cars for a living because it’s always a very interesting thing to do, but I’ve always wanted to drive for a living. Rick Ware and everyone involved at RWR giving me the opportunity to race in the Cup Series is very humbling and heartwarming. It’s really cool.”
