Bad news for the championship, which has been forced to cancel its first race. While teams continue their preparations for the 2026 season, which was scheduled to kick off from May 1st to 3rd at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, several teams and manufacturers have reportedly not yet finalized their preparation campaigns.
To ensure the smooth running of the inaugural event, the teams were supposed to ship their equipment containers in the coming weeks. Faced with logistical constraints, the decision was therefore made to postpone the Mexican race, which will ultimately not take place in 2026. The Central American event is expected to return to the calendar in 2027.
A replacement round is planned in Europe, with the aim of retaining the dates originally allocated to Mexico City. Further information regarding the destination will be released soon, although Italy appears to be the most likely option at this stage.
On the grid side, manufacturers are also expected to announce their drivers for the 2026 season soon. Geely is expected to field three or four Preface TCRs, while three cars are anticipated from Hyundaiwith a possible surprise in the lineup. Honda is no longer expected to be represented by Goat Racing, with Argentinian Esteban Guerrieri tipped to make his GT debut with a Spanish team.
We also hope to see Team Pussier and Aurélien Comte back behind the wheel of their ever-sharp Cupra. A few more weeks of patience will be needed to get a clearer picture of the 2026 World Touring Car Cup grid.
